Welcome to Owlet Music Studio. We teach piano, voice and music composition lessons online.

We have over twenty years of teaching experience and a decade of experience teaching online. We make sure you can see perfectly using three high definition camera views. Each lesson includes sight reading, repertoire, rhythm, theory, technique, and a game. Are you nervous about online lessons? Our parents love having quality lessons delivered right to their door!
Our lessons look and feel different than the lessons you may have taken as a child. Children learn best through play, so scales, technique, repertoire and even sight reading each involve an element of fun. We spend time away from the bench clapping, singing or playing games that help students internalize essential skills quickly. Students learn how their brains work to manage nerves, practice efficiently and avoid common stumbling blocks.

Composition is the most important element in an Owlet Music lesson. Children as young as 4 years old become musicians in their first year, not just students!
Composing Music

If you want your child to enjoy their lessons and become life long lovers of music, sign up for a sample class. This is the first time in several years we've had openings in our studio because our students frequently stay from kindergarten through high school, so don't wait! We currently have two slots available.

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT?

PRESERVING CREATIVE GENIUS

In a study performed for NASA, 98% of kindergarten age children tested as creative geniuses. By thirty years old, that number dropped to only 2%. Creative stagnation in our education system is at crisis level in Canada. Our music lessons are specifically designed to reignite and nurture creativity in our students.

Annual Projects

Owlet Music students compose original music every January, regardless of their instrument or skill level. We believe that children have an innate and limitless ability to create. We foster this through our annual composition project culminating in a recital showcasing their pieces in May of each year.

Get Published

Your child's work will be featured in our annual composition book and on YouTube with an introduction by Miss Amanda. She highlights the features of each composition and the progress students made this year. These are wonderful keepsakes and a great confidence builder for every child.

IN-PERSON EVENTS

The piano is frequently a solitary instrument, but creating community and opportunities to perform together is important for every musician. Owlet Music hosts at least five in-person events per year.

RECITALS

We hold two in-person recitals per year. The first is in early November and showcases our group composition project and student solo and ensemble performances. The second is in late May and features student solo compositions and performances. Students who live too far away to participate in-person submit performance videos that are shared on the big screen!

ESCAPE ROOMS

Music themed escape rooms are a student and parent favorite. These two-hour events are held in studio where students collaborate to discover clues, decode cryptic messages and learn about musicians from the past. Our most recent escape room featured the music of Joseph Bologne at the court of Louis XV. Students had to rescue the King and identify the traitor in their midst.

CAMPS

Our weeklong camps include ensemble playing, art history, daily nature exploration hikes, games and composition. This summer, students learned about impressionism, painted in impressionist style and played music by Claude Debussy. Their composition project, "The Pencil Plot" is on YouTube. Students composed the music using MuseScore!

SIMPLE AT HOME PRACTICE

Our lessons are available to students of all ages and abilities and that includes practice commitments. From students who dream of taking the stage to families that prefer a music appreciation approach, we have the right balance of in class learning and at home practice for you.

As a parent, helping your child practice may seem overwhelming, but not anymore! Our studio uses the Vivid Practice app to help students, parents and teachers keep at home practice clear and manageable.

Vivid Practice is completely free for students. This app keeps all your lesson notes, practice videos and activities in one place.

Your teacher will recommend one of four practice styles that will help your child succeed at home. Each style gives you access to notes and videos.

Each piece and activity is listed clearly in the app. When clicked, lesson notes and practice tips or videos will appear.

Overhead videos are included for most pieces. Sometimes we make these videos together during our lessons! Students will know exactly how to practice each section, keeping them engaged in their own learning and progressing steadily.

Parents and students can send messages to their teacher directly from the app for extra help with tricky passages. This means your child won't have to wait a whole week to learn that tough section. They'll be excited about going to their lessons because they are confident!
